Ruth Lemay is a visionary educator, entrepreneur, and Neurological Music Therapist Allied Professional whose career spans more than 30 years of transformative impact in music education. With a foundation in Minneapolis Public Schools, she has taught guitar, modern band, choir, songwriting, and adapted music to students from preschool through college. A dual-degree holder in instrumental/vocal music education and choral conducting, Ruth blends rigorous academic training with heartfelt artistry and deep classroom experience.
Driven by a passion for inclusion, Ruth founded the groundbreaking nonprofit 3 Strings, Inc., which developed an adaptive method that translates Western notation into an accessible numeracy system—empowering neurodiverse and differently abled individuals to play instruments with confidence and creativity. A powerful voice for equity in music education, Ruth has presented nationally, published in Soundboard, and serves as a regional representative for the National Council of Guitar Education. She is widely regarded as an inspiration to educators, students, and communities alike, redefining what it means to make music accessible to all.

Guitar education in U.S. schools has grown rapidly over the past decade. In this session, Dr. Kevin Vigil examines the key developments behind that growth and shares a bold vision for expanding access, equity, and opportunity in guitar programs nationwide.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Kevin Vigil is a nationally recognized guitar educator and advocate with degrees from Yale University (MM), Shenandoah University (DMA), and the University of Memphis (BM). Since 2005, he has led the acclaimed guitar program at Heritage High School in Leesburg, Virginia.

Bob Morris is a nationally recognized guitar educator, author, and clinician with a passion for making music accessible to learners of all ages. Beginning his musical journey with piano at age six, Bob discovered his true calling when he picked up the guitar as a teenager in Norman, Oklahoma. By 16, he was performing professionally with bands like Eclipse and Unleash the Dog, touring extensively across the Midwest.
After years on the road, Bob pursued higher education, earning a bachelor's degree in voice and a master's in music writing and arranging. His dedication to music education led him to teach in various institutions, including Rose State College and Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College. In Las Vegas, he revolutionized guitar instruction in public schools, teaching 300 middle school students daily and inspiring similar programs throughout the district.
Bob's expertise caught the attention of Fender, where he served as Director of Music Education, conducting workshops and teacher training sessions across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. He is the co-author of several instructional books, including the Essential Elements for Guitar series published by Hal Leonard.
Currently based in Norman, Bob continues to teach privately, perform with the Street Kings, and lead workshops nationwide, sharing his belief that the guitar is a lifelong companion for musical expression.

🎸 Christopher Perez – Director of Guitar Studies, Freedom High School (Orlando, FL)
Christopher Perez is a driving force in music education and one of Florida’s leading champions of the classical guitar. A graduate of Western Illinois University, he currently serves as the Director of Guitar Studies at Freedom High School in Orlando, where he has built one of the most respected public school guitar programs in the country.
A 2017 GRAMMY Foundation Music Educator Award Quarterfinalist, Perez is a passionate educator, performer, and clinician whose influence resonates from local classrooms to national stages. He is a member of NAfME, where he serves as Guitar Council Chair (2020–2024), and is active in FMEA, GFA, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. His ensembles have graced stages across the U.S., including the Miami International GuitART Festival, the Florida Guitar Festival, and the Long Island Guitar Festival.
Beyond the classroom, Perez is a published composer and percussionist, performing with both the Southern Winds Symphonic Band and Walt Disney World’s “ENCORE! Cast Performing Arts.” He regularly presents at national and state music education conferences, shaping the future of guitar instruction through his expert insight and infectious enthusiasm.

Guitarist | Educator | Arts-in-Health Advocate
Jacob Lyerly is a guitarist with a mission: to use music as a vehicle for beauty, healing, and human connection. Whether performing, teaching, or innovating behind the scenes, Jacob's work is grounded in the belief that music should meet people where they are—emotionally, spiritually, and physically.
Jacob’s career reflects a deep commitment to this ideal, taking him into concert halls, classrooms, and even hospital rooms. With over 100 hours of live and virtual performances at Johns Hopkins Hospital, he brings comfort and inspiration to patients, caregivers, and healthcare staff. In addition to performing, he has collaborated with the Peabody Institute to develop training for musicians entering the arts-in-healthcare field, and is launching an online education platform and podcast with duo partner Greg Hays.
A passionate educator, Jacob has taught in North Carolina public schools, served on faculty at summer guitar festivals, and adjudicated youth competitions. He’s also a thoughtful programmer and producer, known for curating concerts that emphasize personal storytelling and community impact.
Jacob holds a Master of Music in Guitar Performance and Pedagogy from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where he studied with Julian Gray, and a Bachelor of Music from the University of South Carolina under Christopher Berg. His accolades include the prestigious Stuart Weber Scholarship (Volterra Project, 2019), a Peabody Career Development Grant, and the USC Christopher Berg Guitar Award.
Whether on stage or in service, Jacob Lyerly plays with purpose—and it shows.
