Why the Charlie Christian Jazz Guitar Institute Matters

The Charlie Christian Jazz Guitar Institute isn’t just about learning licks or charts—it’s about connecting to a legacy that changed the world.

Charlie Christian, born in Oklahoma City, was one of the most influential guitarists in history. He didn’t just play jazz—he revolutionized the electric guitar, transforming it into a lead instrument and paving the way for bebop, modern jazz, and ultimately rock and roll. His impact echoes through every genre, every solo, every guitarist who dares to innovate.

This institute brings that spirit to life.

At the Charlie Christian Institute, students don't just study music—they experience it. Through hands-on workshops, improvisation labs, and ensemble playing, participants gain real tools to grow as players, collaborators, and creative thinkers. Whether you're just starting out or already performing regularly, you'll be challenged, inspired, and welcomed.

Here’s why it’s worth attending:

  • No audition required – all skill levels are welcome

  • Direct mentorship from world-class jazz guitarists and educators

  • Play and collaborate with peers in a dynamic, supportive environment

  • Discover Charlie Christian’s legacy while exploring your own musical identity

  • Access to other events during the Leyenda Foundation Convention—classical, fingerstyle, and cross-genre

  • Build confidence on stage and in your improvisational voice

Most importantly: this is a place to belong. A place to grow. A place to be part of something bigger than yourself.
